Dissecting the Afterlife Part 1: Heaven

haloIf God is perfect, how exactly can he “change” personality traits between the Old and New testament? Are there two versions of “perfect”? What kind of Paradise has this wrathful/benevolent being designed for when we die?

Humanity’s concepts of an Afterlife are varied and inconsistent, riddled with loopholes and non-sensical details. So many religions feel that they’ve nailed the description, though even the quintessential imagery of the “Fire and Brimstone” phrase has been misconstrued to be a depiction of Hell instead of appropriately applying to God’s wrath, itself. If we can confuse what Hell looks like in contrast to what God does to people who piss him off, how are we ever going to get the facts straight? Let’s discuss what we “know” so far….

Nukes

H21Our culture is fascinated by Nuclear technology. And why not? It’s that quintessential bit of science that could easily swing one way or the other, be used for good or for evil, another unwieldly power that we apes probably shouldn’t be tampering with. Internet access would be useful. Oh, and sometimes I entertain the idea of watching videos and maybe listening to some music on occasion, though I can’t really see myself doing that consistently…. Yes. All those things I mentioned, can you point me to a phone that does that? It’s very specific, I know. What?! ALL PHONES DO THOSE THINGS? Shirley, you jest? But then why would my peers go apeshit, touting the perks of their toys, broadcasting the ridiculous amount of money they spend on this finger-smudged piece of hardware with way-too-many icons?

Coping with Death

At times, the body is willing while the mind is unable; although the reverse is occasionally true and it is the body’s turn to be unable. Heavily, your mind floats. You think of the small things that meant so much, while simultaneously discrediting the things that seemed insurmountable at some point. A very contradicting period. You might be approached by people who sympathize your loss, though you may not understand the gravity of it all until it is written plain on their faces. It somehow supercedes that little voice in you that was keeping it together just fine on its own. Stuttering communication becomes the most painful and it is group healing that may break you. Words are a knot in your throat. Silence is acceptable.
